Introduction

BENE (Better Environment with Nuclear Energy) is an Irish group of civic minded volunteers interested in energy use and the impact this has on our economy and environment. As a group we are concerned that Ireland is not being properly informed on the issue. We believe that nuclear energy has an essential part to play in the protection of the environment and our economy.

The goal of this web site is to make Irish people aware of the benefits of nuclear energy and to put the risks associated with its use into perspective. The content has been provided on a voluntary basis by members with experience in various areas of the nuclear sphere. The aim is to provide introductory information on nuclear energy. We believe that a properly run, well regulated Irish nuclear industry is in the Irish peoples own interest.

We hope to demonstrate that the nuclear industry in OECD countries is a mature industry with an excellent safety record which we need to adopt in order to conserve our scarce fossil fuel reserves. It is possible to provide for mankind's needs without endangering the environment or destroying the planet.

The primary target audience is the Irish public who have a right to be informed on nuclear issues. All feedback and suggestions are more than welcome. Remember this site is for all Ireland and is written by Irish people aware of the particular place nuclear power holds in Ireland.
